What is an Enrolled Agent?

I opened my practice in 1992 in Southern California and have moved a couple of times since. My clients have seamlessly moved with me, having developed ways to easily incorporate technology with customer service to provide expert tax and accounting services.
As an Enrolled Agent, my credentials certify me as a TAX EXPERT by the Internal Revenue Service and I take extensive Continuing Education annually to maintain my certification.
Before opening my practice, I gained experience working at various companies including Bank of America Business Service Division, ADP and Bookkeeper's Business Services.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona. (Go Wildcats!)
In addition to my individual practice, Diane Ellis, EA LLC is affiliated with Dupuy Accounting Services, a family owned and operated business since 1958, located in Nogales, AZ.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

"Enrolled" refers to federal government licensing of these professionals. "Agents" are authorized to appear in place of a taxpayer before the IRS.

Enrolled agents differ from other Tax professionals in the following way:

They are required, by examination, to demonstrate their competence and expertise in tax matters before they represent a taxpayer before the IRS.
They all specialize in taxation.
They receive their license and authority from the federal government instead of the state government, which authorizes them to practice in every state.
Attorneys and Certified Public Accountants don't always specialize in taxes. They are licensed through the state, which may limit where they can practice in the U.S.

Fees

My fees are "reasonable" while commensurate with my experience, expertise and credentials.

My hourly billing rate varies from $150 to $250 for audit representation and depends on the service.
Tax Preparation fees are based on the complexity and the number of forms used and begin at $ 250 and average $400 for Homeowners.
Small Business Sole Proprietors begin at $400
Rental businesses begin at $350
Partnerships and S Corporation Business returns begin at $800
W-7 ITIN Application Processing fees as an IRS Acceptance Agent begin at $250.
Audit Representation begins at $750 for the first 3 hours, including securing Power of Attorney and Initial Contact with the IRS or State Tax Authority
